Gloria Tibbs and Diane Hunter explore where we have been and how we are boldly moving ahead in the UMKC Miller Nichols Library’s Information Commons. You may remember the “fortress” reference desk, card catalog, and elbow-to-elbow computers in the reference department. Today the Information Commons is a very dynamic space with well-trained librarians and staff and current technology. It is also a social place where a student can have fun while learning. The Information Commons for tomorrow must be even more flexible to meet students’ ever-changing needs.
